Kini's Place

About Me

I am a stay-at-home mom who lives in Michigan with my husband and our 12 & 4 year old daughters.

I hold a degree in telecommunication information studies and am casually looking into finding a job which pays (though I’d much prefer to work from home) real money.

I am actively trying to change my fitness and dietary habits amidst feeling totally overwhelmed in our cluttered “fixer-upper” old farmhouse located at the edge of the universe (formerly called the middle of nowhere).

Currently, I spend my days (and nights) being home with my children. I enjoy it tremendously and am very fortunate that this is possible for us.

Things About Me

I have not come up with the usual “100 things” yet, but it is up to 69 now! (updated: 12/10/2007)

  1. I was born in, and have lived my whole life (so far), in Michigan.
  2. I married my high school sweetheart.
  3. I have two beautiful daughters, 8 years apart.
  4. I have a bachelors degree in telecommunication.
  5. I have an associates degree in math and general sciences.
  6. I miss taking college courses. Not the tests, projects, and homework though.
  7. I get annoyed quickly.
  8. I live in a farmhouse that is over 100 years old. We are remodeling–(painfully) slowly.
  9. That farmhouse uses a corn stove and fuel corn for heat. The propane furnace is only for a back up as propane is terribly expensive.
  10. I dislike the school district we live in, I wish we had done the research before settling on this home. (Then again, funding keeps getting cut and we lose programs we loved.)
  11. I broke both of my arms (upper arm, near the shoulder), one year apart, by messing around on the monkey bars doing cherry drops and death drops when I was in 5th & 6th grades.
  12. I was never able to meet my father’s parents. They passed away before he was even a teen.
  13. I drove a minivan that was eleven years old when it finally kicked it.
  14. I now drive a Chevy Malibu. I really like it a lot.
  15. I just wish it was 4-wheel drive with heavy duty suspension…
  16. You know, like a Jeep. I’m just saying…
  17. I miss living in a neighborhood.
  18. I love having a pool.
  19. I wish it had a deck.
  20. I have never had a garage to park my car in. I still do not.
  21. I love cheese. I believe that nearly anything can be made better with cheese. Mmmmm.
  22. I prefer white wine over red.
  23. I am a horrible housekeeper.
  24. I have never seen the film E.T.
  25. I have blue eyes.
  26. My favorite color is dark green (though pale sage green and pale pink are pretty too)
  27. Construction orange is the color I hate. And I see it a lot.
  28. I love taking photographs.
  29. I wish I had a new version of Photoshop for my Mac.
  30. I use a Canon 350D (dSLR).
  31. It is a fancy way of saying that I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT.
  32. I also still have a Canon FILM Rebel XT.
  33. My puppy died three days after my youngest daughter was born. She was a 14 year old red Chow Chow. I miss her terribly.
  34. I am ready for another dog.
  35. I am torn between a black lab and an Alaskan Huskie.
  36. It needs to be a PUPPY!
  37. And it needs to be a GIRL puppy!
  38. Two cats showed up and adopted us last summer (2006). One is a very friendly lap-cat type named Kitty. The other is skittish and called Fraidy Cat. They remain outside (barn) cats.
  39. They left us while we were away for a weekend this past summer (2007).
  40. Phoebe still tries to call for them.
  41. I have not flown in an airliner since well before 9/11. Mostly because I have no place to go. Yet.
  42. I love yoga, but have not practiced regularly since we moved from the city.
  43. I love to figure skate.
  44. I would need new skates.
  45. Mine do not fit since having Phoebe.
  46. I injured my foot and it bothers me constantly. (Ruptured Posterior Tibial Tendon. Ouch. DURING PT for a sore ankle.)
  47. I hate vomit.
  48. I appreciated that my husband takes care of the cleaning of said vomit.
  49. I comfort the vomitee.
  50. I love quilting.
  51. I use my Grandmother’s sewing machine.
  52. It doesn’t work very well anymore.
  53. I’m not ready to part with it.
  54. I miss the adult interaction of a workplace.
  55. I love being able to be home for my children.
  56. Did I mention that I am a horrible housekeeper?
  57. I hate my kitchen.
  58. I love my Mac Book Pro.
  59. I used to use a Compaq Presario (new in 1999).
  60. It died while I was writing a term paper for my Michigan History class in 2005.

  65. I have only ever pierced my ear lobes. (Two on each side)
  66. I have a full-sized quilt that I have been quilting for over a year now.
  67. I pieced it completely by hand.
  68. I figured I should quilt it by hand also. Ahem.
  69. Next time, I will “tie” the quilt instead.
  70. Kini is a Hawaiian translation of Cindy. You can read about why I use it here.
