About Me

Published by

I am a stay-at-home mom who no longer lives in Michigan, but now in the state of Washington with my husband and our two daughters.

I hold a degree in telecommunication information studies and am casually looking into finding a job which pays (though I’d much prefer to work from home) real money.

I am actively trying to change my fitness and dietary habits amidst feeling totally overwhelmed in our cluttered “fixer-upper” old farmhouse located at the edge of the universe (formerly called the middle of nowhere) having moved across the country and landing somewhere where we have NO family, NO friends, and NO activities from our former lives.

Currently, I spend my days (and nights) being home with my children. I enjoy it tremendously and am very fortunate that this is possible for us. I very truly miss our busy and hectic lives back in Michigan. Perhaps one day we’ll have something to do again.

Things About Me

I have not come up with the usual “100 things” yet. (updated: 11/13/2010)

  1. I was born in, and have lived my whole life  in Michigan until August of 2010 when we relocated to Washington for my husband’s new job.
  2. I married my high school sweetheart.
  3. I have two beautiful, wonderful daughters, 8 years apart.
  4. I have a bachelors degree in telecommunication.
  5. I have an associates degree in math and general sciences.
  6. I miss taking college courses. Not the tests, projects, and homework though.
  7. I get annoyed quickly. VERY quickly.
  8. I no longer live in a farmhouse that is over 100 years old, although we still own it. We are remodeling–(painfully) slowly.
  9. That farmhouse uses a corn stove and fuel corn for heat. The propane furnace is only for a back up as propane is terribly expensive.
  10. I dislike the school district we used to live in, I wish we had done the research before settling on this home. (Then again, funding keeps getting cut and we lose programs we loved.)
  11. I LOVE the school district we are in here in Washington. At least for the academics.
  12. Phoebe LOES school here in Washington thanks to her fantastically, wonderfully, sweet and inspiring teacher! For the first time EVER since her first year of pre-school.
  13. I broke both of my arms (upper arm, near the shoulder), one year apart, by messing around on the monkey bars doing cherry drops and death drops when I was in 5th & 6th grades.
  14. I was never able to meet my father’s parents. They passed away long before I was even a twinkle in an eye.
  15. I drove a minivan that was eleven years old when it finally kicked it.
  16. I now drive a Chevy Malibu. I really like it a lot don’t like it so much now that the suspension and steering issues have raised their ugly heads — and the remote start hasn’t worked since the first year I heard it.
  17. I still wish it was 4-wheel drive with heavy duty suspension…
  18. You know, like a Jeep. I’m just saying…
  19. I miss living in a neighborhood.
  20. We are now living in a townhouse complex. We have neighbors, but its not neighborly.
  21. I love having a pool.
  22. I wish it had a deck.
  23. I miss having a pool…even without a deck. Though, technically, the pool is still there.
  24. I have never had a garage to park my car in. I still do not. I now have a garage, although we still cannot park a vehicle in it.
  25. I love cheese. I believe that nearly anything can be made better with cheese. Mmmmm.
  26. I prefer white wine over red.
  27. Especially if it is a sweet or semi-sweet Reisling!
  28. I am a horrible housekeeper.
  29. I have never seen the film E.T.
  30. I have blue eyes.
  31. My favorite color is dark green (though pale sage green and pale pink are pretty too)
  32. Construction orange is the color I hate. And I see it a lot.
  33. I love taking photographs.
  34. I wish I had a new version of Photoshop for my Mac.
  35. I use a Canon 350D (dSLR).
  36. It is a fancy way of saying that I have a Canon Digital Rebel XT.
  37. I also still have a Canon FILM Rebel XT.
  38. My puppy died three days after my youngest daughter was born. She was a 14 year old red Chow Chow. I miss her terribly.
  39. I am ready for another dog. While I’d love a new dog, NOT while living in a rental townhouse.
  40. I am torn between a black lab and an Alaskan Huskie.
  41. It needs to be a PUPPY!
  42. And it needs to be a GIRL puppy!
  43. Two cats showed up and adopted us last summer (2006). One is a very friendly lap-cat type named Kitty. The other is skittish and called Fraidy Cat. They remain outside (barn) cats.
  44. They left us while we were away for a weekend (summer 2007).
  45. Phoebe still tries to call for them.
  46. Even after our move to Washington, Phoebe still mourns that they left us.
  47. I have not flown in an airliner since well before 9/11. Mostly because I have no place to go. Yet. I flew out to Washington twice in August. Once to look around, once and didn’t return to Michigan.
  48. I love yoga, but have not practiced regularly since we moved from the city in Michigan.
  49. I love to figure skate.
  50. I would need new skates.
  51. Mine do not fit since having Phoebe.
  52. I injured my foot and it bothers me constantly. (Ruptured Posterior Tibial Tendon. Ouch. DURING PT for a sore ankle.)
  53. I hate vomit.
  54. I appreciated that my husband takes care of the cleaning of said vomit.
  55. I comfort the vomitee.
  56. I love quilting.
  57. I love hand piecing, but I haven’t gotten the knack for hand quilting.
  58. I think I just don’t like using a hoop. Perhaps a floor stand?
  59. I use my Grandmother’s sewing machine.
  60. It doesn’t work very well anymore.
  61. I’m not ready to part with it.
  62. I miss the adult interaction of a workplace.
  63. I love being able to be home for my children.
  64. Did I mention that I am a horrible housekeeper?
  65. I hate my kitchen at the farmhouse.
  66. I love my Mac Book Pro.
  67. Though, its old and I think on its way out after 5.5 years…
  68. I used to use a Compaq Presario (new in 1999).
  69. It died while I was writing a term paper for my Michigan History class in 2005.
  70. It is still sitting on the bookshelf. It has finally been recycled after the hard drive was removed.
  71. I think blogging is way cool and never did I think I could find something that I could be so self-centered with.
  72. Basketball and Hockey are my favorite sports.
  73. My favorite teams are: Any hockey team my brother plays goalie for, Michigan State University (men & women!) Basketball, Detroit Shock, Detroit Pistons, and the Detroit Red Wings AND my absolute favorite is any team one of my girls plays on!!
  74. I have only ever pierced my ear lobes. (Two on each side)
  75. I have a full-sized quilt that I have been quilting for over a year now.
  76. I pieced it completely by hand.
  77. I figured I should quilt it by hand also. Ahem.
  78. Next time, I will “tie” the quilt instead.
  79. Kini is a Hawaiian translation of Cindy. You can read about why I use it here.
  80. I am completely unhappy being so isolated and alone.
  81. I am very thankful to have my snuggly little girl to hang on to.
  82. I am also very thankful to have my big girl and husband around too.
  83. I look forward, dream even, of when the happy days outnumber the sad ones.
