Eyes

Last Thursday evening, I was trying to finish up mowing the lawn. We have many pine trees around the yard which require mowing around or under.

Well, as I was going under one of the trees, I glanced down and to my left for a split second and as my gaze lifted, I ran my right eye right into one of the branches. It hurt like the dickens so I drove the mower over to the door, went inside and flushed my eye with saline. Then I took an antihistamine as well.

I thought all was going to be fine. My eye felt like I had gotten poked in the eye, but it no longer really hurt, it felt allergy-ish.

I went to bed, but woke up in the early, EARLY, morning and it hurt horribly. I could not believe how much it hurt in fact. I woke Ray up and told him that I’d be calling the eye doctor as soon as they opened.

Well, a visit to my ophthalmologist indicated that I had a scratch on my cornea. She gave me a prescription for an antibiotic eye drop as well as giving me some drop to help with the pain and a lubricating drop. She told me in no uncertain terms that I will seriously want to just lie down in a dark room for the next day.

So I slept a lot. When I needed to move about, I stumbled through the house to get where I needed to go. I was constantly hearing Ray ask me “where are you going?” Brushing my teeth was hard. Without being able to even open my eyes a little, it was a really difficult day.

The next morning, I woke up and my eye didn’t hurt when I tried to open it! I was afraid to do it much though since I didn’t want it to start hurting. Fortunately, I was able to open my eyes up AND see just in time to see Alex’s debut in Marching Band on Saturday afternoon.

Today, I visited my ophthalmologist again. She really couldn’t even see where the scratch had happened, but warned me about pain reoccurring at some point in the future. If it does, she told me I was to go in to see her sooner than later.

After that very brief period of time, I am pretty certain that I would rather be deaf than blind.

Now, it is about time to mow the lawn again… but, I’m a little afraid… understandably.
