Marching Band
Today ended a week of marching band camp out in these parts. Before you start in with the, “this one time at band camp,” know that it was just a thing at the high school to learn their music and marching for the season!
For a girl who has been staying up way too late and sleeping in way too late (as in well after NOON!), at least the first half of the week kicked her butt. As in, they started at 8 AM every day and ended at about 5 PM every day. Yeah, that’s harsh for someone who has been up until after 2 or 3 AM and sleeping in until 1 or 2 PM! There were also evening activities to attend. Uniform dispersal. Freshman/Senior Dinner/Activity (that I hear also involved Jello and a slip & slide?). A dance party (heavily chaperoned).
Today was their preview show for all of the parents. It was really pretty neat, considering I don’t recall ever watching a marching band’s show. They didn’t, however, march on the field as intended. Instead, they marched in the competition gym (a much, MUCH smaller venue) in their socks (no black marching shoes on that floor!) due to the massive amount of overnight and nearly all day rain.
Now, if they can only remember everything before their first actual rehearsal in a few weeks and their performances (they have two before school even starts!).
I am looking forward to seeing their show on the field under the lights. It should be really cool. Then again, there is that whole football thing to endure along with it.
