Another Week Bites the Dust

Wow! It has been a week since my last post. This summer is just FLYING by.

Well…not that it has been terribly full or exciting, but it has been fast. And, there has been fun.

Let’s see…

Monday was the final game for softball. The team lost their first game in the tournament. One and done. So, now its over and Alex is very happy. About three weeks ago, she decided she was done, but there was this little thing… Follow-through! She had to finish up the season. I would rather she had put more effort into finishing up the season than she had, but it’s done now. I will miss watching her play. I won’t miss sitting in the blinding sun and frying in it either.

There was also an asthma check up and she has been switched from Singulair to Asmanex. Fun, fun stuff.

On Tuesday, Phoebe and I went to visit a friend and her daughter. And, as it turns out, her hubby (who works from home). Another friend and her girls were there as well. Good times had be all of the adults. The kids went back and forth. After all, how can four girls get together without at least a little drama?

On Wednesday, we pretty much stayed home. I vacuumed a lot. Then I vacuumed up a bunch of glitter that some little person, we’ll call her Phoebe, decided to dust all over things… Um, sweetie, you are not an actual fairy and just because it is sparkly, glitter is not fairy dust! Geez.

On Thursday, the girls and I went to visit another friend and her daughter. It was great. My friend is so well traveled (I haven’t really left the country) so it was neat to listen to some stories and see some of the things she had brought back. Alex just hung with us grown-ups and didn’t open her textbook that she brought with her under the guise of studying while we were there. Phoebe and the little girl had a good time overall. Looking forward to doing it again. Phoebe got to not only see alpacas for the first time, but feed them some grass as well.

On Friday, Phoebe and I headed to a park to visit friends again. This one is our “official playgroup meeting time.” I had a good time. Phoebe and one of the girls played marvelously together the entire time. As far as I know, there was never a squabble. Phew! Glad to know that playtime can be squabble free. At least from time to time.

Softball – End of Season

Tonight was the LAST regular season double-header (who am I kidding? All of the games were double-headers!). Alex’s team split and won one and lost one. They had a few girls missing tonight and they really didn’t seem to be all into the game. I guess it is time for the season to be over. I know that Alex was pretty much done with it two weeks ago and at that point was regretting even starting this season. A big thing for her is that she doesn’t like the coach much. That’s really too bad as I think she probably won’t even bother with it next season (for school or rec.) and I really enjoy watching her play sports and things.

Last thing left is the end of the season tournament which starts Monday night. If When they win that game, the play right away (just like a double header). If they win that second game, the championship game will be Tuesday evening. Good luck Girls!

Alex had conflicting sports events this evening. Basketball open gym was happening at the same time as softball practice. Softball was the winner, because she is on a team. Basketball had to lose because it is an optional workout for the high school girls (plus it is harder on her with the asthma acting up).

Earlier in the day, Alex also had her asthma check. She has sports-induced asthma and her function was a little low and since her rescue inhaler isn’t helping as much as it should, so she’s seeing an allergist/immunology/pulmonary specialist next week. So we’ll see what they say have doing better testing.

At softball practice, Alex did pretty well. She’s been doing some of the catcher workouts. She caught last year on her U12 team and did great, but she did not catch for her U14 team last year. The biggest difference is that for U14 the girls can steal home which makes for a lot more being required of the catcher. Hitting didn’t go so well, she bunted great, but couldn’t get a good hit in.

Phoebe ran around with Kenny (one of our little cousins) pretty much the entire practice time. She was filthy and tired by the time we got home. Looking forward to seeing Ray tomorrow when he returns from Minnesota!

What was up

Friday was a fun afternoon. Phoebe and I went to meet friends at “OUR” park. It’s always nice there, but over recent weeks, others have discovered it and it has been much more busy.

Friday evening, Alex had a softball double header (I really dislike that all of the games are double headers!). Her team won both games, by a lot. The other team was not really prepared for all of the stolen bases. Alex got a single to first, but stole her way home. Sammy (our cousin and on the same team) had been walked to first and stole her way home as well! The evening went a lot like that. Sammy got hurt being tagged out. The girl tagged her with the ball in her shoulder at just the right spot. Another of our girls got hurt while warming up for pitching. Alex got hurt when she was playing first base and a girl on the other team tripped over her, also when she was sliding into home she tore up her hand. (A good reason to have your batting gloves on!) It was an emotional second game. Alex had an awesome triple hit for which she got the game ball from her coach. That was really nice! :)

We spent Saturday morning lounging about not getting a single thing accomplished.

Saturday afternoon, in a flurry of activity, Ray and I got ready to go to a wedding while the girls stayed home.

The ceremony was an outdoor one and the weather was beautiful…a bit overcast, but that makes better light for photos (just not a great sky background). It was a beautiful ceremony and everyone looked stellar!

The reception was nice. Long and slow, but nice. The bride looked amazing and happy. The groom too! They even had a roasted pig (yes, WHOLE) that is a traditional thing from the groom’s culture. It was amazingly tasty too!

Ray and I left the reception and along with two other couples went to bar (of sorts) for a couple of drinks. We caught the third period of The Red Wings game (which they won 5-0 and lead the series 3-2). We were tired, so we didn’t stay too long.

We got home around midnight. 12:18, according to Alex. Also, according to Alex, she sent Phoebe to bed at 12:06! They had spent their afternoon and evening watching The Haunted Mansion, playing Guitar Hero World Tour and spending hours building with the plethora of LEGOs we have.  The living room looks like a LEGO factory exploded in there! Seriously!

Today, Sunday, Ray is meeting up with his LEGO buddies (no wonder why we have so much!?!?!) to finish up a project for the BrickWorld Convention coming up really quickly. Alex has softball practice a little later. Not to mention all of the mundane things like dishes, laundry and such.

Tomorrow morning, everyone gets to sleep in! September will be here too quickly along with the 5:30 am alarms again.

Softball Has Begun

The summer softball game season has begun. Alex’s team had their first games tonight (they play double headers…always) and it was not a pretty sight. They have their work cut out for them this season (new team that wasn’t playing quite like a team … yet). They had moments where the team was doing great and cheered each other on. They also had moments (more of these) in which they were not doing well and the crabbiness was everywhere.

Alex wasn’t hitting well until the end. She did awesome playing first base! She played third base one time and I don’t believe she’s really ever played third before. She did well and with practice will be good there too….

Sadly, there seems to be a bit of coach’s kid favoritism… okay, a lot, but what can you do? Really?

Our hope is that she learns something and has some fun along the way. Next year she will still be eligible to play U-14 and on the high school team (provided she makes the team).

Did I say she could play on the high school team? I cannot believe she’s grown up so much!

Moving On Up

Last night, Phoebe had her last swim class (of this session). Test day was officially on Monday, but there were a couple of kids who were so very close, that they retested them last night at the beginning of class.

Phoebe was one of those kids. She had to complete 15 yards of swimming on her front. On Monday, she was only abot 2 yards shy of the 15. Last night, however, she did it! YAY! She has officially passed her Red Cross Level 2 swimming class/test!

After Easter and spring break are over, the next session starts right up. This time, she’ll be going as a Level 3 swim student!

Congratulations, Phoebe! I am so proud of you! :)
