The Eyes Have It

Phoebe had her eye exam today.

I’m very happy to report that her eyes are healthy and just a hair from perfect. While Ray and I are very happy about this, she is disappointed. She has wanted glasses for quite some time.

Why is it that kids want these things? Glasses, inhalers, etc…

Basketball!

Basketball kicked off today for Phoebe. She is so very happy to get to do something she loved back home. (I think she’d rather do dance, but, at least this is a start…)

The way it works here is they have a giant group practice for a few weeks. The teams are set up by school, but some schools are combined while some have more than one team. It all depends on the number of players. It’s also a time where they attempt to recruit additional coaches while the kids are doing some skill drills.

It was really great to see such a big and thriving program. Back home, there were only enough girls to make three teams and that was combined first and second grade. Here, they divided the group practice in to two groups. Phoebe’s had over a hundred girls … all second grade!

Phoebe in line for one of the drills they were doing (wearing her pink soccer top and black basketball shorts)…waiting patiently.

Moving so fast dribbling the ball that the camera in my iPhone only barely caught her blue and black blur! Next week, I’ll be bringing my actual camera!

All in all, she had a great time. She recognized a few girls from her school. She really hasn’t done any practicing in a very long time and did well despite that. Overall, it was a good morning for her! You know, except for that having to get up on a Saturday morning part.

Experiences

Both girls had “experiences” today.

Alex was on a field trip with her Spanish class to the Seattle Art Museum today. They got to view the Picasso exhibit which she was excited about. Sadly, her group pretty much rushed through the entire thing while she wanted to spend more time. You know, being all artsy like she is. On the upside, we now know that this will be a definite on our destination list. Soon, too, since we’d like to visit before the Picasso exhibit leaves.

Phoebe’s experience was a little less fun, but it was educational. She had her appointment with the allergy & asthma doctors.

Lucky little girl got the skin tests. On her arms. I don’t think that the door even closed behind the nurse before Phoebe started getting reactions and getting all itchy. She asked me to hold her hands so she wouldn’t itch. She giggled and grimaced and squealed from the intense itching she was experiencing. On the upside, the spots were only (very) itchy (and puffy) and there was no pain or burning (or worse). She admits that she has had much worse in the way of mosquito bites back home. Regardless, my baby is now a recipient of an allergy and asthma care plan. *pout*

Still on the upside, at least the raccoon eyes and the sniffling can subside and she can start feeling better and getting more quality rest when she sleeps. All good things. I just want to know where my kickback is from the drug companies with all the medications we’ve acquired recently for allergies and asthma conditions at our house. Seriously, where?
