Salmon Days

It’s Salmon Days here! All weekend, in fact. It is the annual celebration of returning salmon to the lakes, streams and downtown hatchery* (yes, there is a salmon hatchery in town!) with all sorts of free and fun activities. There are vendors with everything from food to art to textiles and everything in between. We saw a nifty one selling little frogs in their own little aquarium habitats. There was fruit on a stick. There were those awesome hammock style swing/chairs. Music stages and a whole field of fun (which we didn’t do this year either). Being our second year was nice since we had a clue about the whole thing (but only a clue).

Ray, Phoebe and I spent a few hours this morning at the festival while Alex was attending a class. We wandered around (in the chilly drizzle) and browsed many of the booths while most of the festival goers were further away watching the parade. Since neither child was actually in the parade this year, we opted to not watch it either. I have to say that it was nice, although having a little more time would have been nice too. This year we parked outside of town and rode the shuttle in — so much better than finding ill-placed parking and walking a long, long way (and then back too).

The afternoon had Alex in one direction and Phoebe in another, so we split up for the rest of the day.

Summer Reading

One had a dentist appointment while the other spent that entire time reading!

Concert!

Today I took all of the kids (all 4) on the bus into Seattle. Ray met us at the bus when we disembarked. We were there to see Harry and the Potters at the Seattle Public Library (Central Library) for a (free, but tickets required) concert!

According to Henry, this was his first ride on the big bus (it was an articulated city/commuter bus) and he said it was “super fun!”

Lilly, sat with Alex and Phoebe and actually slept most of the time.

Phoebe even got to meet Kristina Horner of ALL CAPS while waiting for the show to start who, according to Phoebe, is her most favorite band ever (or at least of the moment)!

Finally, the show had started:

It ended up being a late, late evening for the little kids, but they had a good time as well. Personally, I loved it, despite being really hot in there and the rain outside after!! It was one of those standing only concerts so it was difficult for all the kids to see, but the music was great AND we got to high-five the band. Hoping to see them again sometime!
