Games, Rain, and Blahs

Not much exciting to write about today.

Did some laundry and went to the grocery store.

Alex had a softball game. The first of the double-header, they won. Just as the second game started, the rain poured. They waited for a little while, but our girls wanted desperately to play in the rain. Just when the rain started letting up and the coaches decided to give it another five minutes and as they started raking in the holes on the infield, a giant crack of thunder sounded. That means an automatic thirty minute wait (after the last thunder or lightening witnessed). They decided to postpone the game for another day.

On the way home, we saw a lot of rainbows. Small ones. Giant ones. Pieces of ones. And a colossal one that spanned from one horizon, way up, back down, and all the way to the opposite horizon. A perfect rainbow. People were stopped along the highway to take photos. I opted to not take my camera today. I wish I had so that I could photograph rainbows too, but the large amount of blowing rain would have been a bad, bad thing.

When we got off on our exit, we were driving a little ways when I noticed the truck behind me. I told the girls it would be funny if it were Ray. Alex looked and looked and said, “it could be.” I waved in the mirror and the wave in return told us it was him. Perfect timing for our home arrivals.

The rest of the evening Alex spent online and Ray and Phoebe spent playing with Legos on the living room floor.

Recovery Day

Today was recovery day.

Phoebe and I had the flurry of activity surrounding the big dance recital. Ray and Alex made a quick trip to Chicago for BrickWorld 2008, but missed their robot’s competition to get back to see Phoebe’s show. Alas, both events will occur the same weekend again next year…

The recital went well. The opening number was really pretty cool. The closer was neat, but by that time, I was so ready to leave (over three hours total!!!). Phoebe’s number was the third in the show, but she wanted to stay for bows, so we were there the whole time. It was almost 9:30 pm by the time we left the Performing Arts Center!

Today, I did some laundry and some dishes. Alex practiced some pitching, but since it wasn’t going well (the mosquitoes were a tad distracting and she had launched three balls clear over the barn!), so she didn’t practice long. Ray laid around a lot because he wasn’t feeling well, but eventually roused himself up to play with all the new Lego doodads he picked up out in Chicago.

Other than that, it was far from exciting. Honestly, it really wasn’t all that relaxing either. Though, we did finally watch that ABC Family Movie, Princess. It was really cute. I thought that it had great potential if it had not been a made for cable movie. We liked it anyhow.

Onward to a busy (albeit, slightly less busy) week!

Good Night!

Friday the 13th

I woke up this morning to my radio alarm. I have it set to coincide with the news and weather report. While it was going, I listened to the radio guy talk about the storm that had just rolled through. He rattled off all the roads that were closed, the schools that were affected (one elementary closed and the high school on a two hour delay), and the 15,000 people (in that one town) that were now without power.

That included Ray’s workplace. I prodded him to find out how he could find out. He checked the website, it didn’t load. He found out that there was no power there so he went back to bed.

Meanwhile, I dragged the trash out to the road not long before the trash truck came by.

Sadly, even though we now had the time to spend on cutting and removing the downed trees from last Sunday, not much got done because more storms blew through several times today. Ray got a lot of the brush moved. The girls and I got some groceries and picked up the birthday cake for Phoebe’s party tomorrow.

Ray kept getting calls from work-related people. He finally went into his darkened work to get some things to work on at home. Oh joy.

Tomorrow is supposed to be free of severe weather. We hope to get more work done in the morning before people start arriving. *fingers crossed*

So, instead of ending Friday the 13th with a bonfire under the moon, we ended it with pizza and a couple of episodes of Doctor Who and Samantha Who? tonight.
