Just Amazing….
This was a busy evening for us.
Phoebe had ballet class as usual. When it was over, Ray and Alex met us at the studio. Phoebe went home with Ray, and Alex came with me.
I took Alex to do the readings for Music Man. They were starting promptly at 6:30 pm and we arrived just a few minutes prior to that.
What was amazing was the number of girls auditioning for the same part that Alex is. There had to be around twenty girls vying for the part of Zaneeta. Meanwhile there were only five boys going for the part of Tommy. On top of that, when we arrived, Alex was given a new scene that she was to read and because of that, the Zaneeta and Tommy roles were the seventh part done so the kids could go off and practice a little while other roles were being read. Which meant a really long wait.
The parents? We were ushered into a little room next to the stage. One with no windows, the door was closed, and it did not contain enough chairs. Did I mention it was FREEZING in the place? It wouldn’t have been so bad, except for some of the people auditioning brought their kids with them and put them in there with us. They were too noisy to hear what was going on out on the stage.
Fortunately, I managed to be in the hallway when Alex did her reading. She did fantastically. Now, it’s a waiting game. It really is going to depend on who they want for Tommy, I think, as to who they would pick for Zaneeta.

While it was amazing the sheer number of girls auditioning. It was also a huge range in physicality. There were girls as young as 11 and girls as old as 17. Many looked like they were 12 and a few looked to be, what I think is, the right age for the character (oldest teen daughter of the mayor, dating Tommy…). I’m not the director or casting committee, so who knows.
Now we wait.
I’m not good at waiting…
