Let the Auditions Begin!

Published by at 8:33 PM under Kids,Photos

The big news of the day is that the auditions for The Music Man began today.

Last night there was a dance workshop where they taught the dance being used today. However, they did spend a few moments teaching the dance to those that were not able to be at the workshop (for whatever reason).

It was both a whirlwind and contained a lot of waiting.

Alex checked in, was tested for vocal range (the child must warm up! and not roll out of bed an hour before things like this. Really.), and waited. She went out on the stage and practiced the dance a couple of times and got her music and her papers for the readings on Monday and Tuesday. And… she… waited.

They called people back in groups of four for the dance audition. I would say she was somewhere near the middle, but a little closer to the beginning than the end.

Then she… you guessed it… waited.

When ALL the dance auditions were done, they moved on to the vocal auditions. First they took everyone to the stage and went through the big song once. Then they began calling people back in groups of four again. Luckily, her “song” was the first one they were doing, so once she was done, we were able to leave.

In both cases, the dance and the vocal portions, she believes she did well. That and she very much believes that she did way better than the other people in her groups.

When we got home, we watched The Music Man in eight minute segments via YouTube. The version with Matthew Broderick and Kristen Chenowith. It was tedious to watch it that way (and I admit, I bailed), but we don’t have it. Yet.

Readings for the roles begin Monday. So, yep, that’s right… more waiting.
