Zoo Excursion
Today, Phoebe and I joined some friends and visited a small zoo in Lansing, Potter Park Zoo. The weather was good, although a tad too humid, but dry and not too hot.
We weren’t able to visit all of the areas (it is a little hard with a big group), but what we saw, we enjoyed and plan to visit again soon!
What did we see?
Ponies (they have pony rides); Camels (they have camel rides, and Phoebe did do this); The Aviary (you can go inside and feed the birds…it was really neat, but a few of the kids were freaked out by it); The penguins (this was Phoebe’s favorite of the whole day); The lions; The tiger; The wolves; The monkeys (several varieties); The ostriches; The porcupine (I have never seen a real one, boy, they are bizarre looking!); The coral and clownfish exhibit (yes, they had clownfish in the anemones…and cleaning shrimp too! Can we nickname it the “Finding Nemo” Exhibit?); The Bald Eagles; The owls; The bear cat; As well as goats, llamas and snow leopards; No bears. Oh my!
The one of the first things we did was listening to one of the docents read some stories to the kids. The first one was a story about Peter Rabbit and after, they got to pet a bunny. The second one was about a colorful snake that could hide among things. Then, yes, they got to pet a snake. Phoebe was funny, she wouldn’t pet the bunny, but did want to pet the snake:

Camel rides:

In the middle of the day, we had taken a break to have a picnic lunch at the park/picnic area. The mommies grilled chicken and had a chicken cesear salad and the kids had a smorgasbord of other things (nuggets, PB&J, etc, etc.). While we were enjoying lunch, we also watched all of the peacocks wandering around.

The Aviary:

It was a great day. I’m glad Phoebe loved it. We’ll definitely have to visit one of the bigger zoos sometime, but not with such a large group. It will be fun!
