Weekend Update

Published by at 10:08 PM under Family Events,House,Husband,Kids,Misc.

I am starting to feel really neglectful of my blog here. I haven’t been updating as often as I would like and certainly not on anything remotely close to a daily basis like I had for 2008.

Let’s catch up then, shall we?

The last time I wrote, I mentioned the all of the groundhog predictions. Yay us. More winter.

Friday was a fun day for Phoebe and I. We had planned to meet a bunch of our friends at one of those indoor playscape places nearby. Our friends planned to be there about 12:30 pm or so as a few of the kids had school in the morning. I opted to take Phoebe up there much earlier to give her a chance to run and play a lot. It was my hope that when everyone was getting ready to leave, that Phoebe would be ready to go as well. Alas, that was not the case. Even after having been there nearly six full hours AND being one of the last to leave, she had a major meltdown. She was just having too much fun still and wasn’t done. Sigh. I was done and since my friends were all done (and their kids…Phoebe’s friends), I had no intention of sitting there much longer on my own. So, we left. Just about kicking and screaming, but we left.

She apologized to me later on. Without being prompted even. The bright side of the day was, well, that it was very sunny and bright out.

On Saturday morning, Alex had a date with the ACT test. She took it (again) as an “above grade level testing experience” through Northwestern University’s Midwest Academic Talent Search (NUMATS). She did really well last year so it will be interesting to see how it compares with this year. This is the last year she can take either the ACT or SAT and not have it count on her records (unless she wants it to). Next time, it will be for real.

While Alex was at her test, Phoebe and I drove Ray up to the urgent care center. He’s been coming down with a sinus infection all week, but didn’t get a chance to see the doctor. Friday night was miserable for him, so he finally wanted to take care of it. (He’s doing better now!) At least it was a beautiful day later on: sunny and warm!

After lunch, I took Phoebe to a family concert. Just before it was time to go, she said she didn’t want to go. Huh? She had been excited about it all week. I suspect that she just wanted to stay put after having driven around all morning. I really cannot blame her. Being the meanie that I am, I did take her and let her know that if after being there a while, she still didn’t want to be there, that we could leave.

We stayed the whole time. She had a ball! We saw Gemini and if you’ve never been to one of their shows, I highly recommend it! They are fun and interactive for the kids!

The evening found us having pizza and watching The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Then Phoebe and I went and snuggled up to watch Open Season 2 (again) upstairs. I couldn’t believe how tired I was feeling…just not sleepy. Yes, it’s an odd feeling.

Sunday was mostly a lot of hanging out around the house. I did take Alex out to get a couple of things she needed for school, plus a few grocery items (like milk and bread).

That’s all folks! At least for now.
