Super Saturday
We had great luck today in that it wasn’t pouring rain like the forecast had promised all week. Yay!
First thing this morning was opening weekend ceremonies for softball (and baseball in the local travel league). This year is our first one with this club. It has been a terribly disorganized mess and not at all what we had expected. The ceremonies this morning, however, were very organized and actually quite nice. All of the kids grouped with their respective teams and they all lined up (shoulder to shoulder style) from first base all the way around to third. The president of the club spoke and introduced the other people “in charge.” Then one by one, the coach of each team was introduced and the coach introduced each member of their team. It actually went very quickly (I was quite surprised)! The last team introduced was the older boys of which this would be their last year playing in the club. Next year they’d be on the freshman team at the high school. Each “graduating” boy was given a rose which they in turn gave to their Moms. It was very sweet. The ceremony concluded with the Pledge of Allegiance and the ceremonial first pitch (baseball and softball) by one of the bigger sponsors. Play Ball!
As soon as that was over, we high-tailed it out of there and over to Alex’s volleyball tournament. They did very well at the beginning, but soon fizzled out and the girls began getting snippy at each other. It was kind of sad really. Teamwork? Um, no, not much at the end, sadly. The “game” they had today was a working one in which they had to referee and line judge and keep score. Alex was a line judge for the first match and a referee (standing on the big ladder at the net) for the second. She did really well and said she really liked doing the reffing part. At least the day ended fairly positively.
Tomorrow, more softball!
