Irritating
Last Saturday morning is when all the soccer team (and individual) photos were scheduled for. To say it was a breezy, brisk morning would be the understatement of the century! It as freezing and we had gale force winds…well, at least it felt that way.
So, while Alex was at the university for the Science Olympiad state competition, I took Phoebe to the park for her team photo. As cold as it was, she was excited. Even when it was her team’s turn, she was excited. Even now, nearly a week later, she is still excited about getting a photo of her new team!
This is where the irritating part comes in. It is always exciting, especially for the little ones, to get the team photos. Even now, Alex at thirteen, will sometimes look back at the teams when she was little. Mementos, memories, keepsakes.
Back to the irritating part. Of the ten children on Phoebe’s soccer team, only four showed up for the photos! FOUR! 4! Yes, only four. Out of ten.
Okay, I am the last one that should throw stones at scheduling conflicts and missing things. And, the weather was yucky!
Here’s the worst part, in my opinion: only one parent had let the coach know (after the most recent game) that they would not be there. That means the parents of FIVE four-year-olds on a peewee soccer team did not think it prudent to pick up the phone and call the coach to say they weren’t coming.
None of them. Wouldn’t you think it would just be a polite courtesy type of move to make? A simple phone call. That is all it would have taken. On Monday, the coach said there weren’t any messages at her house when she got home either.
To top it off, on Wednesday, several of the parents, upon finding out it was only a practice and not actually a game, said that they wish they would have known before getting there. Um, it was on the schedule, have you looked at it? Not that it matters, all the game and practices all take place at the same time in the same place. Want to know why they wished they’d known? They said that if they had known, they wouldn’t have bothered to come.
Hmm. Yes, these are the same folks who did not think they should let the team know they were going to ditch the team photos.
Huh. I guess it was a good thing that they did not know. Practice is a good thing, and they were able to have all of their players there this time.
Dorks.
