Sick?!
This morning, as Ray pulled out of the gate with Phoebe to take he to school on his way to work, my phone rang. It was Alex calling from school. She as not feeling well and wanted to come home. Her voice sounded odd and this was the first time this school year she had done so.
So, without asking what was actually wrong, I told her I’d leave in a few minutes and come get her.
I arrived at the school and signed her out. We left the office and as soon as we were in the hall, she threw up…leaving a trail to the bathrooms. At least she did this on the hallway tile versus the office carpet (and not in my car!) and that hallway was not full of people like it is between classes!
Since my car was woefully lacking in fuel, I stopped at the station in town to fill up. (Ouch! $3.69/gallon? wth?) While there, we got to watch an old lumber company building being torn down. (Later in the day it was merely a large pile of rubble.) While sitting the car (taking videos with cell phone), she was feeling much better already.
We went home and shortly after arriving there, Alex vomited again. Then passed out. She slept for over four hours.
Once she woke up, she felt better. In fact, it was like she hadn’t even been sick to begin with! Lucky, lucky girl!
She even went to softball practice in the evening. Normally, I never let the kids go to anything if they came home from school not feeling well. A few things happened to make me giver her a furlough for that rule: Even though she *was* sick (and undeniably demonstrated this), she was much, MUCH better well before the practice. AND, it was the very first practice. You know, the ones where all the information is given out and all the expectations are spelled out. That’s why. An exception. Once.
After softball, she was still fine. Normal even, for her.
Like I said, she is a lucky, lucky girl!

Wow. Youngest daughter did this on Friday too. Headache, threw up twice, slept for four hours and then woke up feeling fine. Weird!
I’m with you on the practice though, it’s a Mom’s call and I think you made the right one. …and she obviously wasn’t faking…
