Volleyball Day
As you may guess, we spent the entire day yesterday around volleyball!
Alex’s team participated in a tournament yesterday. She had to be at school to board the bus by 7:20 am. When I returned to the house, Ray was showering and Phoebe was still asleep. Dressed, apparently, but asleep.
I gathered up a few items (camera, drawing pad & crayons, blanket) and people and we left the house at 8:04 am. Arrived at the tournament slightly after 8:30 am.
Alex’s team played in the second game, though she didn’t. It had to do with having an excused absence from a practice and a game (she was home sick) and thus had to sick out 1/2 of a game for each “offense.” Alex played in nearly every game after. She did very well, served well, played well. The team took first seed for their pool (they played 7 games in pool play). They beat the #2 seed from the other pool and went on to play the #2 seed from their own pool (which they beat, barely, during pool play). They won the first game, but sadly lost the last two.
A few girls were crying with the disappointment of not taking first. The rest (and it was most of them) were joyous and giddy with excitement for having done so very well. A second place trophy is now on display at school.
Alex decided to ride home with us instead of on the bus. She waffeled on that quite a bit before finally deciding to join us. We stopped for dinner on the way home.
We arrived home around 9 pm. A long, LONG day. It is amazing how exhausting it is to sit on bleachers all day long. Ray and I were exhausted and we didn’t even play volleyball! Yikes.
Before going to bed, the corn stove needed to be relit (it ran out of corn while we were gone because we didn’t check it!), the clocks were changed, and the usual brushing of teeth and using of the potty were performed by all.
