…Arbitrary ramblings from here…

Dashing through Monday

It’s Monday again. Probably the worst day of the week, right?

Not a huge amount of excitement today. Busy? Yes.

Both girls had school today. It was picture day for Phoebe. Quiz day in social studies for Alex. I picked Phoebe up after class and we went to a burger joint for lunch (with a play structure inside) and met some friends up there.

The big deal of the day for Phoebe occurred next. We left the burger joint and went to the big store next door. There we purchased adjustable inline skates for Phoebe. They came with all the knee and elbow pads, wrist guards and even a helmet (which is way too big for her). She spent some of her afternoon marching around the house in them. In the meantime, Alex had a science club meeting after school followed by volleyball practice.

Then it was home, dinner, and an episode of a favorite television show (DVRed so we skipped commercials). The last thing for the girls were showers, jammies, bathroom stuff, stories and bed!

My evening was capped off by putting laundry away.  Exciting, I know.

Cactus Flowers

I had always thought that my little cactus plant was a “Christmas Cactus.” It had also never bloomed (as far as I have paid attention and noticed), but I have had it forever (so it seems).

It had started blooming this year. Approximately two weeks prior to Valentine’s Day, I noticed some purplish “things” coming off some of the ends. About a week ago, I noticed that these “things” had opened up to be some very pretty flowers! They close up when the sun isn’t out or when it is a really dark day.

I’m thinking that either it’s a “Valentine’s Day Cactus” or it is just confused or something.

This plant is currently living in my south facing kitchen garden window. The same spot it has been in for two years. Prior to that it was in the same vicinity, but we did not have the garden window at the time.

I almost feel like spring is actually on its way. A little bit of color and wonderfulness amidst the dreary doldrums of winter that seems to go on and on and on and…

Daddy Daughter Dance

Phoebe attended her very first Daddy Daughter Dance this weekend.

Phoebe wanted to be all “prettied up” and gorgeous for her first dress up dance! She started by a soak in the tub. Then she had her nails done and hair done. She had it all planned out, it was so very cute!

She then had to do a lot of twirling. After all, she had to be sure her pretty dress was twirly enough!

Just before Daddy got home, she finished getting ready. Tights, shoes, her little jacket and makeup! Oh boy.

She had a wonderful time dancing with the other little girls there and drinking a ton of punch because, let’s face it, dancing and playing like that is hard, thirsty work!

Phoebe was quite excited for quite some time after they returned home. I was surprised, honestly, that she didn’t nod off earlier than she did, but I’m happy she had fun.
