Saturday Stuff
Lo and behold! It was a fairly low-key, boring Saturday (for us)!
Alex was up early today to go and take the ACT for the first time. She is in seventh grade, but this is an opportunity to take an “above grade level test” through the Midwest Academic Talent Search program out of Northwestern University.
Let me tell you though, it was sure fun to get there. We had gotten some more snow overnight. The winds were gusty. It was REALLY cold out. And, none of the roads were tended to yet. We arrived at the school for the test and the “main entrance” where the admission ticket directed us, as locked. No sign. We finally found a little, yellow sign near a door that I didn’t even consider to be an entrance. She ended up arriving just in time.
Fast forward to pick up time. She came out 35 minutes later than the lady at check in said they’d be out by. Alex was cheery and she chatted with a friend on the way over to the truck. I think she was genuinely surprised at the difficulty of the exam. There was a lot of trigonometry on it (which she hasn’t seen yet) and she felt like she didn’t have enough time on the reading portion. The rest, she feels she did well. We’ll see in a few weeks when we receive her results. (She did not take the writing portion this year.)
Later on, Alex and I went up to the store to pick up a few things. When we got back, we made dinner and we all watched Casino Royale. I kind of liked it. I’m not sure I’m terribly fond of Daniel Craig as James Bond, but what do I know? We followed that up by watching the latest episode of Stargate: Atlantis and then called it a night.

Hmmm. I spent Saturday looking at the high school’s in the area. We have a couple to choose from and we need to decide if a - we can afford one and b- if the ‘artsy’ one is the way to go, and worth the drive. It’ll be an interesting decision…sorta like you’re doing over there! Keep us posted!!
