Stomach Bugs

Published by at 10:17 AM under Kids

Last Friday, Phoebe came down with a stomach bug. She vomited. A lot. After an hour or two, she was hungry and thirsty. We started her off with saltines and water, doling them out slowly. After four hours, and that she was acting like she had never been sick, I took her out with me on an errand.

Everything was fine the entire time we were gone. When we got home, however, she complained of a sore throat. I offered her something to drink, no. A spoon of honey? No. Then she says to me, “I need to throw up!” and turned around and threw up everything from the day into the kitchen trash can. (At least it wasn’t the floor this time!) It was six and a half hours after the last episode that morning. Great.

What made it better? (not really) Having to take her out (again) to take Alex to basketball practice on the other side of the world. (30 minutes one way.) She ended up being fine. Ray was even able to leave work and pick up Alex (oh, and pizza…Papa Johns, we love you!).

Saturday, everyone was fine. We visited my sister’s house. My nephew was turning 11 and having a party.

Sunday, we had Ray’s company Christmas “party” to go to. We took the girls to my Mom & Dad’s house while we went to the place. Afterwards, we picked them up and drove home. About ten minutes from home, Alex started to complain that her tummy was not feeling good. By the time we got home, it was worse. I asked her if she thought she might throw up, she didn’t know. So, to be careful, I put the bucket into her room. Within minutes, it was her turn. The bug has made another appearance here.

On Monday, only an episode or two in the early morning hours, so Alex stayed home. She was still not quite right, so I’ve kept her home for Tuesday as well. She was sad about missing band two days in a row. She was sad to have had to miss basketball practice Monday night. I bet, though, that she was not sad about getting rested to feel better.

Now, Ray and I are doing the fancy dances to try and avoid coming down with it ourselves…
