Kini?

Ever wonder if that is my real name? If you do not think so, you are most definitely correct.

Now, do you wonder why I use it? I guess in the realm of the ‘net it is common to use a pseudonym for your identity. But, why Kini? It is actually a quite simple reason.

When I was younger, my parents went on a trip to Hawaii (I am so jealous!). One of the things they brought back for me was a cute keychain which had my name on it. My “real” name on one side, “Kini” on the other which is the Hawaiian version.

Recently, I have been looking up my name on those “what your name means in (fill in the blank language)” websites. I looked up my name in Hawaiian (which, honestly, I have never checked). It turns out that ‘Kini‘ is the way MANY names translate. Among them are: Cindy, Dean, Gene, Ginny, Jane, Jean, Jeanine, Jennie, and Jenny. There are also several names which have “Kini” either at the beginning or at the end of the translated name.

Want to see what your name is in Hawaiian? Take a look here.

Anyhow, I thought it was cute and I have been using it for a very, VERY, long time. And, in those situations when four letters are insufficient, I opt for KiniWoman. So, next time you see a post, reply, or whatnot from “Kini” or “KiniWoman” it might just be me.

By the way, I still have that keychain all these years later. Right now it holds that precious key to the swimming pool ladder!
